Summer’s Just Around The Corner
January 29th, 2009Hey Climbers! The cold spell seems to be quickly vanishing, meaning….
SUMMER IS FAST APPROACHING !!!
The best way of getting back into the grind will be to set your GOALS.
1. Identify a competition, event, or climbing trip where you will want to apply, execute, or display (LOL) your new skills, form or physique
A list of up-and-coming events:
February 21 Love On the Rocks. Power Up Tandang Sora. This is a good way to gauge your early achievements ( assuming there are! ). This is a no pressure fun comp, with just one goal.. to spread the LOVE… hehe. Lot of vibe and socializing with climbers from all levels, mortals to gods
March 7-8. Purisho Bouldering Comp. For the boulder addicts! Get set for high profile and high performance climbing as the spot light shines on at the Mall of Asia. Competition levels according to Beau will be open and novice, so “BEAU”LDER ON!
April 4-5. The week before Holy Week, summer’s official opening, approximately over 3 months from this email. Bagasbas Summer Surf, Year 2. It’s official, we will be having competitive climbing, frisbee and volleyball; plus the surf clinics, music, fun and the whole caboodle. This is a duplicate of plans that didn’t push through during last year’s La Union Surf Break. Still planning though on what climbing format to set up. BUT set that date aside! It’s a road trip, comp, gimik all rolled into one!
2. As if these events were made for you, they are about a month apart, and would be best treated as milestones or achievement markers. Take notice of what small achievements you make as you participate in the events. Give yourself a pat on the back if you did better than expected, or assess what area could be improved on, in preparation for the next event.
In other words, measure yourself against the expectations set.
3. Set realistic expectations. Of course we all want to climb like Miel but …ok.. we’re mortals and all have limitations. Setting goals and milestone expectations that are within reach will protect you from frustration and pre mature burn out. How to know what’s realistic?
Listen to your body on a per work out basis to know, and immediately adjust. If I set my goal for Love on the Rocks to be able to climb a green route on Russian Pump, and by Feb 1, I’m having difficulty flashing the Finals wall, all holds… then maybe adjust expectations down. But if I was already doing 15-20 min laps on the Russian Pump today, then why settle for green level routes by Feb 21? Push the limit always, but at the same time, know the limit
So we have a good year ahead of us, full of hope, not just of getting back into shape, but possibly… the best shape of our lives ! naks… i love drama
